Opt-In Status Column (SMS & Calls)

Updated this week

The Opt-In Status column allows you to see and manage a contact’s subscription status for SMS and Calls & Voicemails directly from the Contacts table.

This helps ensure compliance and prevents sending messages to opted-out contacts.

Where to Find It

Go to:

Contacts → Contacts Table

You’ll see the Opt-In Status column enabled by default.

The column displays two icons:

  • 📩 SMS

  • 📞 Calls & Voicemails

Each icon reflects the contact’s subscription status for that specific communication type.

Understanding Opt-In Status

A contact can:

  • Be subscribed to both SMS and Calls

  • Opt out of SMS only

  • Opt out of Calls & Voicemails only

  • Opt out of both

If a contact has opted out of a channel:

  • The icon will appear disabled

  • Hovering over the icon will show the opt-out message (e.g., “Opted out of SMS”)

This gives you instant visibility without opening the contact record.

Soft vs. Hard Unsubscribes

There are two types of unsubscribes:

Soft Unsubscribe

Occurs when a user manually updates the contact’s subscription status inside the platform.

  • Can be reversed

  • The contact may be re-subscribed

Hard Unsubscribe

Occurs when the contact takes a direct unsubscribe action, such as:

  • Replying “STOP” to an SMS

  • Pressing the unsubscribe digit during a call or voicemail

Hard unsubscribes:

  • Are marked in red

  • Cannot be reversed

  • Ensure compliance with messaging regulations

How Broadcasts Respect Opt-In Status

When creating a broadcast, the system automatically filters contacts based on their opt-in status.

SMS Broadcasts

  • Only contacts subscribed to SMS are included.

Voice Broadcasts

  • Only contacts subscribed to Calls & Voicemails are included.

If a contact is opted out of one channel but subscribed to another, they will still receive eligible message types.

No manual filtering is required.

Example

If you have:

  • Contact A → Opted out of SMS

  • Contact B → Opted out of Calls

When sending:

  • An SMS broadcast → Only Contact B is included

  • A Voice broadcast → Only Contact A is included

The platform automatically handles the filtering.

Important Note

At this time, the Opt-In Status column does not fully replace the overall contact status system. Subscription logic will continue to be improved in upcoming updates.

Why This Matters

The Opt-In Status column helps you:

  • Stay compliant

  • Prevent accidental sends

  • Protect your sender reputation

  • Gain clear visibility into subscription status

  • Send smarter by channel
